NOTE:
I frequently make students aware of their current grades in my class. They are made aware of what they missed, owe or scored
on a certain asssignment. Students are supposed to keep track of all scores on their own as well. Students and parents have
numerous ways to see how they are doing in my class at all times.
Classroom Structure
When one builds a new home, that person wants it to be strong, reliable and
sturdy as well as able to stand the test of time. When construction starts, the basement is the first to be built. However,
without a strong and sturdy basement or foundation, the new home or structure may not stand firmly as it should. I believe
that my students need a strong foundation in order to stand the test of time (as a citizen). Therefore, classroom structure
becomes my ally or tool. Discipline allows the class to run smoothly as to ensure that each of my students gets the most learning
time available. Without a strong structure, students would be at a disadvantage in the classroom just as a new home would
be at a disadvantage in a strong storm. Students will know the classroom rules from day 1 and will continue to follow the
rules until they progress from my class. Of course, just as it is in the "real world" if laws are broken there will
be penalties. It will be the same in my classroom. Some of my rules may seem harsh, but they work and allow me to reach
all of my students and ensure that they get the maximum learning time in the classroom. With set rules, structure and
discipline, students in Mr. Fike's social studies classes have fun on a daily basis as well as take something with them.....in
other words......THEY LEARN!
MATERIALS YOUR
STUDENT WILL NEED EVERY DAY!
1. Textbook
2. notebook
3. folder
4. pen (blue or black ink only) or pencil
* may I also suggest a small packet of tissues.
*the notebooks and folders can be purchased at a dollar store for merely pennies. The notebook
will contain students' notes, homework, current events and their test scores on the inside folder. I randomly collect notebooks
and give points for all of the information that students should have.
*the folder is meant to be a place where students are to keep ALL handouts, tests, quizes, projects
etc.
- students are to write their assignments in their planners AND notebooks everyday,
NOT ONLY IN MY CLASS BUT IN all others so that mom and dad know what homework their students have!!!! The Homework hotline
is also a great place for parents too seek homework info!
3 strike system
students who break class rules will have 3 strikes. Each time a rule is broken or a classroom
infraction happens, students get their names written down along with the date and the infraction. The third time it happens,
students will be assigned after school detention with me at 3pm until 4pm on Tuesdays. Transportation is provided for the
student. Every class infraction after the 3rd results in after school detention AFTER EVERY INFRACTION. PERIOD. For the rest
of the school year. Constant infractions will not be tolerated and further action will be taken.
CLASSROOM CONTRACTS
